TECHNOLOGY PRODUCT TRADE Machines for welding and staking plastics

Need to weld plastics in small volumes? Here is where to look.

The machines we supply are built for series production and start at EUR 40,000. If your volume is smaller, that would be a needlessly large investment. There is no point holding you up, so we wrote down where to look instead.

It is not comfortable sending anyone elsewhere. But a machine that will not pay for itself helps nobody, and an honest answer is rarer in this field than another quote. What follows comes from the questions we get asked most often. Hopefully it saves you a few hours of searching.

Before you start looking, call us. Five minutes on the phone and we will both know which of the categories below you are in, and it costs you nothing. Sometimes a small part turns out to be something we can solve, and sometimes we point you down a route that has nothing to do with us.

Call +420 777 981 981 or write to info@tp-t.cz. A photo of the part or a drawing is enough.

Hand-held and impulse film sealers

For closing bags, sealing film around the edge and small packaging. In price they run from tens to a few hundred euros.

Look at packaging wholesalers and online shops with packing equipment. The term to search is “impulse sealer”. Ask about the jaw length and the film thickness the sealer will actually close.

Benchtop ultrasonic welders

For small plastic parts, samples and one-off work. They work on the same principle as the large machines, only without the automation and with manual loading.

Look at suppliers of laboratory and assembly equipment. The term to search is “benchtop ultrasonic welder”. Ask about generator power in watts and whether a horn for your part is included. The horn is made to suit the part and is a bigger share of the cost than most people expect.

Hot air welding of sheet, film and pipe

For plastic sheet, waterproofing membranes, tanks and pipework. It is closer to a trade tool than to a production machine.

Look at suppliers to roofers, waterproofing contractors and plastic sheet fabricators. The term to search is “hot air plastic welder”. Ask about temperature control and which nozzles are included.

Or send the part out to a subcontractor

On small and irregular runs this tends to be the most sensible route. You pay per piece, you do not have to buy a tool and you do not have a machine standing idle in your plant.

Subcontractors who weld plastics are found by technology and by region. Search for “plastic welding subcontractor” together with your region. Ask for a price per piece at your run size, not just an hourly rate.

And if your volume grows

Once you are into tens of thousands of pieces a year, or once you need a joint that has to stay tight, hold its strength and pass your customer's approval, get in touch again. At that point a machine of your own is worth calculating and we will gladly go through it with you.
