Machine and line prices

What a machine for welding plastics costs and what a blister line costs

Most suppliers in this field do not publish prices, and we understand why. Except you need to know whether we are talking about tens or hundreds of thousands of euros before you approach anybody. So we decided to write it down. The exact figure waits until we know the brief, because before that it would not be an estimate but a guess.

Stand-alone machines start at EUR 40,000. If you need to weld plastics in smaller volumes, a separate page points you where to look.

Five figures you can work with

  • Welding unit for your own line: EUR 10,000 to 20,000
  • Simplest machine for welding plastics: EUR 40,000 to 60,000
  • Usual machine, two to four welds: EUR 60,000 to 120,000
  • Blister line depending on setup: EUR 40,000 to 180,000
  • Complete purpose-built line: EUR 150,000 to 400,000

Prices are for a machine with one tool for a specific part or a specific tray shape.

Before you search: hand tools are a different field

If you search for the price, what comes back is hand tools for a few hundred euros and portable welding guns. They are used by people welding plastic pools and water tanks, or repairing cracked bumpers. That is honest work and a quite different field.

The figures below are for machines for series production, meaning a part that has to be as tight in five years as it was on day one and has to pass your customer's approval. Here prices start two orders of magnitude higher and suppliers rarely publish them. That is why we do.

Price ranges by type of machine

Eight items this field actually counts in. What is usually not in the price is right under the table.

The table covers both halves of what we supply: machines for welding plastics and lines for blister packaging. Prices are for a machine including one tool. Nobody can give you an exact figure before they know the brief. For a first calculation this is enough.

What moves the price of your machine most

In the order of how strongly it shows in the result.

WhatHow it works
Number of weld pointsOne point is a different job from sixteen. The tool, the power of the generator and the size of the frame all grow with it.
Required cycle timeManual loading, semi-automatic and fully automatic differ by multiples. Cycle time follows from the annual volume, not from a wish.
Size of the partThe part has to pass through the working area and the tool has to fit in the machine.
MaterialSome plastics need more power or a different technology altogether. That shows in the price immediately.
ToolingThe machine usually stays and the tools change with the product. The second and third tool are a fraction of the machine.
Capacity you will actually useA machine is sized for the part that will run on it, not for the part your neighbour has. An oversized machine is the most expensive mistake we come across in quotes.

This is why we ask about the part, the material and the annual volume before we name a figure.

What is in the price and what is not

We write it this openly because the most expensive item in a quote tends to be the one missing from it. That goes for our quote as much as for anybody else's.

The machine price usually includes:

  1. The machine in the agreed configuration.
  2. One tool for the specific part.
  3. Documentation and an operating manual in Czech or English.
  4. Declaration of conformity and the papers you need for inspection.

The machine price usually does not include:

  1. Transport and transit insurance.
  2. Setting the machine up at your plant and connecting it to your services.
  3. Training your operators on site.
  4. A second and further tool for a different product shape.
  5. Service after the warranty and spare parts.

It does not mean we will not supply them. It means you will see them in the quote as separate items and you will know what you are paying for. Details are on the Service and warranty page.

When we tell you not to buy it

When the volume says the machine will never pay for itself. A man who makes gold commemorative coins once called us wanting a gift blister for them. We told him that what he needed could be bought online for about sixty euros, and we parted over a coffee.

There is no point selling you something that will stand idle in your plant. Stand-alone machines start at EUR 40,000. Below that we will tell you straight away where to buy cheaper or who to send the part to. And you are welcome to get in touch anyway. Now and then a small project grows into a large one.

What a machine for your part will cost

Three to five questions, depending on what you are solving. You get a price range, the cycle time you need and the level of automation that will cover your volume. Free, and without leaving any contact details.

If you do not know, estimate from how many places have to be joined.

What customers ask most often

Answers you do not usually find on a supplier's site.

What does a machine like that cost?

The simplest stand-alone machine runs EUR 40,000 to 60,000. A usual machine with two to four welding points, EUR 60,000 to 120,000. A whole special purpose line with assembly, marking and inspection can reach EUR 400,000.

What moves the price most is the number of welding points, the cycle time you need and the size of the part. In that order.

Why does the site not say which manufacturers you represent?

Because we pick the technology to suit your part, not to suit a brand. If one name stood on the site, it would look as though we sell one brand and one technology.

We go through the particular manufacturer with you in person, once it is clear what your part needs.

How long does delivery take?

Five to eight months from order. If you need to be producing in January, the order has to be signed roughly a year ahead and you need the quote on the table earlier still.

That is why it is worth getting in touch while you are still negotiating the contract, not once you have signed it.

Who comes out when the machine stops?

You call us first and in most cases the fault is settled over the phone. Newer machines can be diagnosed remotely.

Most spare parts you buy from an ordinary local wholesaler, because they are standard relays, contactors and switches. When an engineer is needed, they come from the manufacturer and already know which part to bring.

Does a machine pay off on a smaller series?

Sometimes it does not and we will tell you so straight away. At a few thousand pieces a year a machine at EUR 40,000 will not pay for itself.

In that case we point you to where to look for simpler equipment or who to subcontract the part to. There is no sense selling you something that will stand idle in your plant.

Can we see a machine before we buy?

Yes, and most customers want to. Either at a company that runs the same machine, or at the manufacturer while your own machine is on the floor before shipping.

When the dates do not line up, we do a video call from a machine that is running at that moment.

What if we change the product in two years?

The machine usually stays and only the tooling changes. On products of a similar shape often only the inside of the tool changes, because the outer dimension stays the same.

A second and third tool therefore cost a fraction of the machine. We allow for that when choosing, so that the machine still serves what you will be making in five years.

Want a figure for your own part, not a range?

Send us a photo or a drawing, the material and a rough annual volume. Within 48 hours you have a price range you can put in a calculation, plus a verdict on which technology will do it and which will not.

Better still, call. Five minutes on the phone will tell you more than the whole site. Petr Bernard answers it.
